Asperitas is a clean and high-tech company. As leading immersion cooling specialists  we provide cutting edge immersion cooling solutions for energy efficient and high density datacentres globally. We launched our first solution in 2017. After an extensive R&D phase with an ecosystem of cutting edge partners since 2014.

Immersed Computing® is the concept driving the innovative Asperitas immersion cooling systems. This concept is based on total liquid cooling, in other words immersion cooling. Our solutions are fully ready to support the highest global datacentre standards. Above all immersion cooling will support your objectives regarding energy efficient and high density datacentres. Asperitas has won several international awards. Mostly for the innovation level and potential impact of the solutions, for instance the Europas Greentech award, Global Changemaker award and the New Energy Challenge organised by Shell.

In 2019 Asperitas has attracted an investment from Shell Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Shell, and the Participation Fund for Sustainable Economy North Holland (PDENH). The investment, led by Shell Ventures, supports the acceleration of Asperitas’ mission to enable sustainable datacentres on a global scale.

Since our research and development phase we have been collaborating with an extensive ecosystem of partners and we continue to do so. As part of our standardisation and industry development efforts we have taken a leading role in the Open Compute community as the leader of the immersion cooling workgroup as part of the advanced cooling sub-project.

We believe in order to make global datacentre industry growth sustainable, it’s necessary to integrate the datacentre industry within energy transition, therefore we take the lead as immersion cooling specialists.

The global datacentre industry is one of the fastest growing technology driven industries. With emerging digital technologies, for instance artificial intelligence, data analytics, virtual reality, IoT and advanced cloud services we could say we are on a wave of high performance computing.

Obviously datacentres are necessary for digital economies, however datacentres are dealing with significant challenges, for instance they are facing boundaries regarding floorspace, access to (renewable) energy, cooling costs, complexity and cost of build.

The next hardware component generations facilitating the emerging digital technologies are high powered and require high density hardware platforms. This results in a situation whereby the traditional datacentre model does not fit with the technology it should be facilitating. In addition, datacentres are generating energy (hot air) which is consistently wasted as it is impossible to transport to heat users in an efficient and cost friendly way.

Immersed Computing® made it possible to facilitate a record breaking high density GPU platform in an existing datacentre with minimal investment needed."

The Asperitas Immersed Computing® solutions did meet the requirements to deliver a 300kW facility on less than 35m2 with ten systems. In order to do this a unique server configuration had to be developed by Asperitas for a GPU-based cluster. This Immersed Computing® optimised configuration is able to run 12 GPUs in a 1U server; totaling up to 288 GPUs per system. For the system to run all year round a simple dry-cooler system was deployed. Optionally, the high temperature cooling water is ready to be fed into a district heating system.

The Department for Applied Bioinformatics in conjunction with the LOEWE Centre for Translational Biodiversity Genomics (LOEWE-TBG) was looking for a solution, which is highly energy efficient, sustainable, reliable and maintainable. It should support our existing IT infrastructure by fulfilling ambitious HPC requirements for comparative genomics research across hundreds and even thousands of species. The newly acquired solution forms the central computing infrastructure of the recently founded LOEWE-TBG.
